Fight Global Warming at Home

With energy use in buildings responsible for 43 percent
of America’s carbon dioxide pollution, our workplaces and homes are our nation’s biggest global warming polluters.

A city of Austin task force is currently considering a plan to require homesellers to get an energy audit and provide that information to prospective home buyers. People would be encouraged to voluntarily participate in a program for basic efficiency upgrades, like weather stripping and duct sealing, if a house needs it. These energy strategies would significantly reduce global warming pollution and are self-financing -- the savings on utility bills outweigh the costs of the upgrades. More.

Unfortunately, a group of realtors, concerned that efficiency upgrades might lead to delays that cut in to their profits, have launched a campaign to stop this critical program.

Please contact the Austin City Council and council candidates and tell them you support a strong "point-of-sale" ordinance to improve energy efficiency.
