On Oct. 17, Author Elizabeth Grossman Will Discuss Her Investigation of Tech’s Toxic Underside for Austin Locals and C-Span

WASHINGTON, DC –October, 2006 –Elizabeth Grossman, author High Tech Trash: Digital Devices, Hidden Toxics, and Human Health (Island Press, Cloth: $25.95 ISBN: 1-55963-554-1), will be in Austin to discuss her global investigation of high tech manufacture and disposal.

To expose the information behind this important issue, C-Span will be on hand to film Grossman’s presentation on the hazards of electronic waste for their highly regarded “Book TV” program. The Digital Age was supposed to usher in an era of clean production, but as Grossman reveals in her new book, digital may be sleek – but it’s anything but clean.

Called “eye-opening,” “alarming” and “compelling,” High Tech Trash is the first book to take a comprehensive look at tech’s environmental and health impacts. The book investigates not only electronics disposal, but also the damage caused by the mining and chemicals used in manufacturing high tech products, as well as solutions to what the Wall Street Journal has called the “world's fastest growing and potentially most dangerous waste problem.”

The event will take place at Book People at 7 PM. Media interested in attending the event or wishing to get more information about the book should contact Jaime Jennings at 202-232-7933, ext. 44, or jjennings@islandpress.org. Additional information is available at: http://www.hightechtrash.com.
