Join Houston youth climate leaders in 24-hour climate vigil at City Hall

Houston’s young people are demanding a better future for themselves and for future generations because they will inherit the climate that we give them.

With wildfires out west, and a barrage of hurricanes and tropical storms here in Texas, it’s clear: the climate crisis is here, and it’s now. Texans are on the frontlines of the climate crisis, and it’s time for the energy capital of the world to lead the energy transition and act on climate.

Youth leaders have been leading the charge in Houston, hosting climate strikes and protests, testifying at hearings, and building grassroots support for climate action. With the advent of Houston’s Climate Action Plan and the city’s recent commitment to 100% renewable energy, there’s growing momentum to address climate change and build a cleaner, greener Houston.

We can’t slow down now. Tomorrow, September 25, Houston’s Youth Climate Strike will be holding a 24-hour vigil at Houston City Hall, demanding sweeping climate action from all levels of government. The demonstration will accompany thousands of similar events across the world in a Global Day of Climate Action.

Houston’s young people are demanding a better future for themselves and for future generations because they will inherit the climate that we give them. So, even if they have to “zoom” into their virtual classes from the steps of City Hall, young people will be holding vigil for 24 hours because, in their words, “we have everything to lose.”
