AUSTIN – Environment Texas, which is a citizen-based environmental advocacy project of Environment America, announced today its endorsement of Judge Veronica Escobar for Congress (TX16).

Veronica Escobar’s active and expressed support of Environment Texas’ work and values–fighting for open spaces, clean air, clean water and clean energy–led to today’s endorsement.

“Environment Texas’ members and supporters believe that defending our environment requires independent research, tough-minded advocacy, and spirited grassroots action. Judge Escobar’s career in public service and her congressional campaign exemplify these very ideals,” said Luke Metzger, Executive Director of Environment Texas.

“We have no doubt that Judge Escobar will put the health and well-being of Texans first when she gets to  Congress.  As a county Judge, she stood up against unfair fees that would have slowed the growth of solar energy in El Paso and fought the re-opening of the Asarco smelter. She has also used her well earned stature in the El Paso community, time and again, to advocate for the great outdoors, including working to protect the Castner Range and promote eco-tourism.  She is, indeed, the pro-environment champion Texans deserve to have represent them in Washington D.C.”
