Major Solar Legislation Faces One Final Hurdle

AUSTIN – With legislative deadlines nearing, Environment Texas launched a final push to get major solar legislation through the House and on to the Governor’s desk. SB 545, legislation that would create tens of thousands of new solar jobs across the state, has passed the Senate and the House Energy Resources committee and is waiting for placement on one of the final calendars of the House.

“Texas is poised to become a world leader in solar power,” said Environment Texas Director Luke Metzger. “SB 545 can help make that happen, but only if the House Calendars committee places the bill on the Major State Calendar for Tuesday.”

Today, Environment Texas is:

    * Delivering “Major State Solar Calendars” to all the members of the House Calendars committee. Each month of the calendar features a photo of a solar installation here in Texas. The photos were contributed by Environment Texas members from across the state

    * Delivering petitions signed by more than 3000 Texans (collected by Environment Texas and Vote Solar)

    * Sending staff door to door in the district of House Speaker Joe Straus urging him to use his influence to place SB 545 on the Major State Calendar

“Speaker Straus and Chairman McCall are big supporters of solar power,” said Metzger. “In these final days of the session, they have tough choices to make about which bills will get heard on the House floor. We urge them to place SB 545 on the Major State Calendar and help kick start a solar revolution that will create tens of thousands of jobs.”
